Thread counts can go that high, but the quality is probably lacking. When looking at thread counts, you also have to consider the number of plies used in the thread. A 400 count single ply weave can be superior to a 600 count 2-ply weave since, for the 2-ply count, the number of plies is multiplied with the number of treads. A 1200 count could possibly be a 200 thread count with 6-ply, 300 thread count with 4-ply, 400 thread count with 3-ply, etc. In terms of threads, 400 count is about the maximum achievable. Anything higher than 400 count will almost always consist of multiple ply threads.
