To remove them totally u need to change your matresses, you cannot have the same matresses & completely get rid of them.
you cannot have the cake & save the cream.
Bed bugs seem to be a problem at an alarming rate. Since you live in an apartment, there could be other tenants with an infestation. I highly recommend you discuss this with a landlord. The landlord should pay for someone to exterminate them. As far as bites, I would treat them like a cut. Put peroxide on them and an antibiotic like Bacitracin or Neosporin. Here are a couple websites to address your problem. Also, I am wondering if you had a small steamer, maybe the temperature of the steam might kill them.

I highly recommend hiring a Professional who specializes in bedbugs to:
1) Inspect your home for infestations and make the neccessary recommendations to remove any and all infested items such as beds, frames, headboards, etc.
2) Treat the infested areas using a combination of residual insecticides, flushing agents, and dusts.
3) Includes multiple follow ups based on the biology or life cycle of bedbugs.
