this site has loads of help for beginner seamstresses. It can help you to figure out how to do this.
First measure the pillow adding adequate seam allowances all around. Cut one piece of fabric this size. Second cut another (the back) piece of fabric 8 inches longer. lay out pieces right sides together over lapping the center of the back piece and keeping outside edges together. Before you continue sewing this together hem the center pieces of the fabric on the back.
Stitch the outside edges, turn right side out and you have a plain pillow sham. Add ruffles or lace before you stitch it together for a fancier pillow sham.
