My puppy likes pressure and warmth?
She’s a 3 month old Italian Greyhound. We’ve had her about 2 weeks now.
She always likes to crawl under the covers on the bed and sleep at the very end. With my body heat and my fiances body heat under a 20 pound comforter, it gets HOT and hard to breath under the sheets… And she likes to cuddle up close to people so her head is kinda squished. For example, I’m home sick from work and we are on the California king size bed, and she decided to shove her head between my legs (while under the covers) and sleep like that…She always shoves her face under our backs or stomach when we go to sleep.
Is it normal for a puppy to do that kinda stuff or could it be a issue? We’re scared we’re going to suffocate her one night or accidentally push her off the bed.
Thank you!
I’ve only had one dog before and she was an older mix. This is my first puppy, and she won’t get to big. Me and my fiance both, like to have her on the bed. There’s no issue with her being on the bed since she is (minus the one or two accidents) house broken. We love the fact that she likes to cuddle close, and we don’t want her to sleep on the floor.
We live in FL btw, so it can’t be that the weathers to cold… It’s at least 80 when we sleep. But I understand it now.
Thanks again!

i think your little puppy is just looking for security and to feel safe after all she is away from her mom and litter mates and you only have her two weeks it would be ok to let her sleep on your bed until she gets use to her new surroundings but then try and train her to sleep in her dog bed in your room
I agree with basically everything here. Just wanted to say that this is not just a puppy thing: my 3 1/2 year old teacup chi does the SAME thing all day, every day. It’s pathetic, actually.
My dogs do it all the time they love it. Here’s how I see it. If they can’t breath they will move. If they are uncomportable they will move. If you push them off the bed they will get back on. Same goes for you. Yes it’s normal and the dog will be fine. It’s you I’m worried about. I have three Boston terriers and I let all of them sleep with me and my bf on a queen sized bed. After two years of being forced out of your bed it’s not so fun anymore. I’d teach her to sleep on the floor or somewhere else now before it’s harder to train her that .
Hi there! As far as I can tell (from having puppies multiple times) this is completley normal! We had one puppy that would try to get between your back and the couch when you were sitting and tried to get in people’s shirts. It just reminds then of when they were young and got to cuddle up to "mother" and the other "kids". A lot of puppies do this and it should go away with time just like ours did! (: As far as suffocating her or pushing her off the bed goes, don’t worry about it. If the oxygen to her brain begins to slow she will try to get away and will almost ALWAYS get away in time. (: Pushing her off could hurt her, but she’d be woken up if she would start to be pushed. Hope this helps! ^.^
Italian Greyhounds love heat. They’re SO short-haired and they love to stay warm.
Also, your puppy is used to being part of a litter. They sleep all in a heap all the time.
It’s probably nothing big to worry about, especially if you live in a colder climate. Greyhounds, both Iggys and regular-sized ones, get cold very easily due to their lack of body fat and thin fur. We live in a relatively warm area (average temperatures are between 50 and 60 during nighttimes), and yet our Greyhound still likes to be snuggled underneath her blanket and loves wearing her pajamas. Just like humans, dogs love to be warm when they sleep.
As for worrying about squishing her, I wouldn’t worry about that, either. Our other dog (a little Mini Schnauzer mix) loves to sleep with my parents at night, and it can get pretty crowded with both of them and the dog up there. I think if it got too hot or crowded for your dog, she’d just move around to a more comfortable position or get off the bed entirely. Still, if it were me, I’d watch her carefully, and maybe not let her shove her face under my stomach or back. She’d be welcome to snuggle with me, but I would not be comfortable with her face underneath me.
You are barkin’ up the right tree here! Italian Greyhounds are one of those breeds that need to be kept at warmer temperatures than other breeds, because they have short coats and very little body fat. Not to mention how little they are. It is normal and even expected that they like to sleep under the covers. I have known lots of dogs who do the same thing, (including my dogs) and I haven’t heard of any negative effects of sleeping near the feet. I can’t do it, but it doesn’t seem to bother them. My guess is that they use up less oxygen than we do due to their bodies being so darn small! So they don’t feel like they are being suffocated. Also, there is air coming through the blankets, so snuggle away!!
