no, the California King is 12" longer than a standard king size
One lives in California, the other one maybe lives in California
Cal king is longer than a regular king
Standard King Size Mattress: 76 inches wide x 80 inches long.
California King Size Mattress: 72 inches wide x 84 inches long.
It is not 12" longer…. It is 4" longer and 4" more narrow.
Mattress Sizes
Twin–39 x 75 inches (or 99 x 190 cm)
X-Long Twin–39 x 80 inches (99 x 203 cm)
Full–54 x 75 inches (137 x 190 cm)
Queen–60 x 80 inches (or 153 x 203 cm)
King–76 x 80 inches (or 198 x 203 cm)
California King–72 x 84 inches (or 182 x 213 cm)
The sheets really don’t fit. If you have a CA King, then get the right sheets.

king= 76×80
ca king=72×84
basically what everyone else said. you could use cal king sheets on a king i suppose, but king sheets on a cal king will be too small to fit over.
Cal. King is bigger than a regular king so if your sheets are too big then I think they are Cal. King but your bed is regular King.
If the bed was Cal King then regular king sheets would be too small.
Measure your mattress. King size mattresses measure "76 x 80", California King mattresses measure 72" x 84", and Queen mattresses measure 60" x 80". If the sheets you have are king size and they are too big, it sounds like you have a Queen size mattress, cause they would be too small for a California King. Good Luck.
