is it safe to use lamb wool comforters for newborns?

I’ve heard lamb wool comforters are too heavy for newborns and can lead to baby suffocation.
Also I’ve heard babies shouldn’t be using pillows for a while.
However, my mother in law insists i use them. I would like to prove her wrong.
Any opinions?

No pillows are blankets at all!…My daughter is 9 months and she still doesnt get either of them!….Although I think she would be just fine. They move around so much in their sleep the blanket doesnt stay on them anyway!. If you are concerned about the little one being cold, use a under shirt, socks and a fuzzy sleeper, and then place him or her in a sleep sake!

No pillows or comforters period. They do pose a very serious suffocation risk. A warm, footed PJ and either a firm swaddle or a sleep sack is all you should be using. If it is so cold that you need a wool comforter, you need to raise the thermostat in the house to a more comfortable temperature.
Actually as odd as it sounds babies only need a fitted sheet in their bed. No blankets, toys, bumper pads etc. Due to suffocation hazards.
They say dress a baby in one more layer of clothing then we are comfortable in and don’t use a blanket…
However I always use a blanket, like the ones they use in the hosp. I can’t bring myself to just lay them down and not cover them up.
Babies cant regulate their temp so you want to make sure they stay warm.

as long as the babe or family members don’t have a wool allergy, the blankets are perfect year ’round. instead of fighting with your MIL, become friends. your child will thrive in the healthy environment. pillows are personal choice -a soft one is easiest to use, but NEVER mandatory for adults or babes.
A newborn does NOT need a comforter or pillow. Just dress your newborn in a diaper, onsie and blanket sleeper.
