Hello – I’m going to buy some nice bedlinen for the missus, but know nothing about it, really. So if anyone could help with the following…

1. Does 800tc really justify being almost twice the price of 400tc, given that the 800tc tends to be 2-ply 400tc?

2. Given a choice between percale and sateen (both at 800tc), which would be preferable?

3. Is it better to get fabric that has been mercerised and sanforised? Different stores tell me different things (and oddly, the best seems always to match with what they have in stock).

Ok, so, for our CC class, we have a bogus project to research a rare type of fabric, and make a project from it. I picked egyptian cotton (stupid me).

How soft is egyptian cotton? How breathable and cool is it? Is it softer than silk? What does it feel like to the touch? Where can you buy plain white Egyptian cotton (not comforter sets)? I know there’s online retailers who try to pedal off 1000-count fabrics, but are they rip-offs? What kind of stores can I buy the cotton from? I want to make a pillowcase for my project, one of the plainest, easiest projects to make.

I have tons of flat bed sheets lying around since I never put them on my bed. I already saw a video on youtube on how to make a sheet into a pouch sling ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAWAk4svsl8) and it made me wonder if I can make one into a moby wrap type sling. I know they should have some stretch and the sheets don’t have any. How important is it for the fabric to be stretchable ( 95% cotton and 5% spandex)?

A few of the sheets I glanced at were like 90% cotton 10% polyester or 80% polyester 20% cotton….I know if I can make slings out of those they would be more of an autumn sling since its a fabric that will make you hot and sweaty in warm weather.

I know gauze type fabrics work but I’m just trying to find something that I want ( a moby type wrap) with stuff lying around the house.

I am in the process of redecorating my home and want to change the color of my throw pillow cases but cant find the right fabric or color in premade throw pillows so i am undertaking to make my own….but dont know how to make them….i have the sewing machine and fabric but thats about it….please help i dotn want to messt hsi up cos i have done really good with the rest of the house but just not this!

I recently made a quilt. Each block was made into a "quilt sandwich", in other words, each quilt was made up of a square of fabric, a square of batting, and a square of backing fabric. I would sew each individual "quilt sandwich" together, then I sewed them all together to form the total quilt. They produced a frayed look on the front and a smooth look on the back.

My question: How do I get this quilt to stop shedding? Each time I wash it, more and more of the fabric comes apart at the frayed edges. I have cotton threads everywhere, and it is making a mess.

What’s the best way to sew a large quilt on a sewing machine? I feel like at some point there would be too much fabric to make it work. And even if you make manageable-sized squares and combine them, wouldn’t it eventually get too large to fit in the machine? Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

I want to make pillow cases for my children. So I am wondering how many yards of fabric I will need to make a standard pillow case.

whenever i sleep at night my pillow gets SOOOOO hot. i have to constantly flip it cause i like sleeping on the cold side. is there ANYWHERE i can buy a pillowcase that stays cool during the night (or at least not so hot)? what kind of fabric should i get?

I have these amazing black satin sheets but the problem is the pillows keep sliding off! Right now i put the pillows on top of cotton pillows and it helps a bit but I was also thinking about sewing some kind of fabric such as fabric to the backs of them. Any ideas?
