I bought a mattress with memory foam inside the first layer. I bought it used, so I can’t return it… I mean, it’s wonderful, it had been airing out on the floor for around a year, but the smell seems to be hard to cover up (I bought a mattress protector to cover up the smell, perhaps I bought the "wrong one"? I also got a mattress pad, but it’s not enough to cover up the smell either… I also put a blanket over it…
What I was thinking, is, with my last mattress, using non- chlorine bleach with water on a cloth, helped with the smell, but this mattress looks more porous? Wouldn’t it damage it to use this, then?
Also, the only other thing I used was Febreeze… ( I had to use the nc bleach to get rid of the Febreeze smell, too…).
Should I get a better mattress pad or a latex topper or something?

Any ideas on any of the above or suggestions on them is welcome…

Thanks! :)

Egg Crate Pad vs Quilted Mattress Pad?

I’m an incoming Freshman (into college) and in the dorm "starter" kits, they supply one egg crate pad and one quilted mattress pad for your bed. I know you can’t use both (or can you?) so which one is better for quality sleep? Any recommendations?

I am about to buy new bedding and I am concerned about the synthetics used. I noticed when I purchased a mattress pad, it had antimicrobial properties. I wasn’t looking for this and really don’t feel too good about a chemical-laden pad but because of the price, I purchased it hoping if it wash it a couple of times this would reduce the chemical used. So has anyone purchased a natural/organic mattress or had problems with ones sold in the stores these days? Thanks

Can wet hair stain a mattress pad?

I sleep with wet hair a lot, and I just realized that my mattress pad is stained from it. (It’s under my head, so it’s like, the only option.) I’ve never noticed anything on anything else, is it just because it went through my sheets (dark purple) and carried the color or something?

I have a bed with a down alternative mattress topper. Unfortunately my regular full size fitted sheet does not fit the bed well enough because the mattress is deeper with the mattress topper. I am able to find "Expand-a-Grip" mattress pads but I need actual sheets to go over the mattress pad.

What is the difference between a matress cover, a mattress topper, a mattress protector and a mattress pad?

What order are they placed on top of the mattress? Where can I get reviews and recommendations for mattress components?

Thanks!

Organic baby mattress or mattress cover?

I am thinking that I want to buy an all organic mattress pad for my baby but they seem to be to hard to find. I came across these mattress covers that are supposed to keep the chemicals from a non-organic pad from getting to baby. What do you think? Should I go for the 100% organic mattress pad or buy a regular one and put a cover on it?

Here is a site about the mattress covers

I have found some "organic" mattress’s that claim to be all organic but looking into it they contain chemicals

Okay so I’ve been searching around trying to find a consensus on how one should layer their bed linens and how often you should wash them. So what’s your opinion/advice?

My layering goes like this (from top to bottom):
2 flat sheets, fit sheet, and the mattress pad.

So is it better to layer it like the way I have it now or can I just do 1 flat sheet, and wash it every week. Which is the cleaner alternative? I currently wash my two flat sheets every two weeks, and the fit sheet every month.

What are your suggestions? Thanks!

what kind of fabric would I use?

I am wanting to make a mattress pad for a toddler bed. I need to know what fabric would be best to use for the side the child would lay on? (bedwetting prob). I need it to be as inconspicuous as possible so she can take with her to sleepovers and such. One side would be fleecy blanket material, but am at a loss for knowing what to use for the the other side, that would be either waterproof or absorbant

Just recieved a pair of red bed sheets and when washed they turned the washer tank red not to mention the sink. The mattress pad also took on a hue of red from the sheets. Cannot remember the old country way to set the dye so it will not happen again when washed or used.
