I’m lookin into getting a new bed and I’m leaning more towards the temperpedic memory foam type or a select comfort air (pneumatic pump to change firmness) type . Now with a platform bed would I need to get a boxspring or foundation for these types of mattresses? Or would I be better off getting a box spring or a foundation and a regular bed frame?

We’re moving and I’m getting a new bedroom set. I don’t know if I should get a platform bed or a regular bed w/ a boxspring. I like the looks of the platform bed, but I like how comfortable the boxspring is. My new room is alot smaller than my old room, so I want it to look as big as possible. Also i’m 13. If anyone has color ideas please let me know. I sort of wanted the black wood. Thanks!

I am looking for a king size platform bed — the real kind of platform.
I type in platform beds in yahoo only to find beds with legs and slats! That is not a true platform bed.
I have an awesome (queen) size platform bed that looks like it’s floating on air. It’s got a solid wood under the mattress that connects to sides. Under that solid flat piece there is a smaller, square piece that raises it in the air a bit. It’s sort of low, but not too low, and not too high. This is what I’m looking for, only in a king size. (I got this platform in the 80′s.)
The platform is like a short box, that allows you to stick the mattress inside the platform (therefore it wouldn’t shift). It comes up on the sides about 3-4".
I don’t want to spend a lot of money on it, I’m looking for reasonably priced.
Thanks for any help!

I have a king mattress and boxspring set already and I am about to purchase this platform bed. I want to make sure that you can use a regular mattress and boxspring with this bed before I make such an expense. Does anyone own one and know? also… if your wondering .. yes the dimensions add up.. but i just want to make sure and get some advice first.

I’m thinking about getting a platform bed, Is it okay to use a boxspring with it? I think I would like my bed to sit a little higher than what the platform offers.

Can this be used on top of a boxspring or just on a platform bed? No familiar with foam mattress… Thanks!

I have a pillow top bed. When I first got it, it was amazing. Now it just plain SUCKS! The bed is way too soft. People have suggested I try putting a plywood between my boxspring and mattress, but since I don’t have a boxspring, I don’t think that’d do much for me. I have a platform bed for all who may care. I was hoping I might be able to use a mattress pad of some sort, but people tell me these things are to make a bed softer, not firmer. Am I doomed to sleeping on the floor until I can get enough money to buy a new mattress?

I am pricing new bedroom sets. I have a queen mattress/boxspring. I’ve seen platform beds that I like, but none are ever displayed with the box spring. What are the pros/cons of using the box spring on a platform bed?

I am preparing to move in a couple of months, and trying to decide how much to budget for a new mattress. I am getting a full-size platform bed, so I don’t need the box springs, just the mattress itself. I don’t want an air-bed or anything like that, but a traditional spring coil mattress or foam mattress would be fine.
Everywhere I look they are at least 0. I don’t care about quality, I just need something to sleep on until I can get something better. I can always get on of those mattress toppers or something anyway. So… anyone know of a good place to get one? Thanks!

It would be too high with a box spring, but some people say the mattress will wear out sooner without a box spring. Is that true? The platform bed has storage drawers underneath, and seems more useful than a box spring on a frame. Does anyone have experience with this situation?
We are building the platform with the storage, ourselves, because we couldn’t find one to buy!

We just got a new platform (king size) bed. And a new (very deep) king size mattress. No boxspring, per the platform bed design. The mattress is resting on a series of wood slats. How in the world do you make such a bed? The mattress is too heavy for me to lift to tuck sheets and blankets under at the foot of the bed. I am hoping that there is some trick I have not thought of. HELP!!??

Just moved to England, and looking to buy a boxspring mattress. The part that goes underneath your soft mattress, it’s required in a sleigh or platform bed. What do they call it in England? I can’t seem to locate on.

it’s a set from Haverty’s Furniture.
I really like it. It’s my first new furniture set ever.
Since it’s black wood, do I need to replace my dark wood chest of drawers and dresser, since it might not match? I hate to get rid of them and spend more money on matching pieces in the set, since the wood pieces in that set will probably come having to be put together and may not be as valuable or as sturdy as what I already have.
What is your opinion of this? I’ll try to locate a picture of the platform bed I am getting this week.
