My ex-wife, Claire, has been stopping over more often of late, and I recently agreed to let her come over on alternating Wednesday nights to watch a film with the kids and me (tomorrow is "ET"). Not that it’s any of her business, but recently she has been complaining about my sleeping on a twin bed in my tiny bedroom, and said that I could have the old bed from the house, as she has a new waterbed. I told her no thanks (considering she and a fellow named Timdawg had had their way in it during our marriage), and I thought that was that.
Today, one of those 1-800 mattress places dropped off a double bed at my place. I told them I didn’t order one, but the driver said that it was already paid for — by Claire. It barely fits in my tiny half-sized bedroom, but is a Posturpedic so I kept it. The bed also came with with red satin sheets, feather pillows and a black comforter.
I called Claire to thank her, and she said, "Glad you’re happy. Maybe I’ll get to see the bed Wednesday night."
She said the bed is a token of her appreciation for my allowing her to attend movie night with us twice a month.
By accepting the bed, though, am I really obligated to let her "see" it?
(For those of you who are curious: Timdawg’s in jail, looking at prison time. Poor fellow. Haha!)
