My daughter’s mattress got wet and molded while it was in storage. We had it wrapped in plastic to protect it, but that didn’t work. The box spring is fine.

Hi! My husband and I just moved back to the US after four years overseas. While we were gone, our stuff sat in storage, including this mattress. No matter how I try, I cannot get the musty smell out of it. I have put baking soda on it and vacuumed. I have put scented carpet powder for pet smells/mold on it and vacuumed. I have sprayed the mattress down with antibacterial disinfectant spray and vacummed. I have Frebreezed and everything. Still, the mattress smells musty and dusty. It is so bad, that the whole room smells musty (thankfully, it is only a spare bedroom). And even worse, if you lay anything on the bed, like clothes, the smell transfers to the clothes.
I told my husband that the mattress has to go. He still thinks it can be saved. So I have come to you all seeking the answer.
Is the mattress beyond hope? Should I throw it out? Or can the mattress be saved? Do you have a remedy for the smell?
Looking forward to your ideas and answers.
Thanks…
T.

Me and my husband got a 4 inch mattress pad for christmas and he is deploying soon so I am just putting our stuff in storage and driving our car back home with a few things I need in it. I want to take the mattress pad but don’t know how to pack it to fit in the car cause it doesn’t fold. I thought about one of the space saver vaccuum bag but I dont know if it would work.
when it was packaged it was in like a vaccuum sealed plastic thing but when we opened it then it immediately started getting bigger which is whats its supposed to do, im not sure if i could roll it, its gonna be hard to even fold it to try to get it into a vacuum sealed bag

We had a boxspring in storage briefly; unfortunately, during the couple of weeks it was in storage the area flooded, and about three inches of the boxspring got wet. We did not discover this for almost a week. The boxspring is completely dry now, but that three inches has a watermark and also an unpleasant odor. Is there any way to clean it, or do I need to give in and buy an allergy cover for it? We can’t afford to replace it right now, and we need to be able to use it again ASAP!

I recently purchased a down comforter, but it’s way too difficult to put it back into the original bag for storage. A sales rep at BedBath and Beyond told me to store it in one of those space saver vacuum bags (thus preventing moisture/dust mites from entering). However, in researching down filling, I read that down should not be strenuously compressed, nor compressed for long periods of time. So was the sales rep jerking my chain, or can I store my down comforter by placing it in one of those Space bags and sucking the air out of it with a vacuum? Thanks!

We’ve had bed risers on our bed for a few years, and we love the extra storage. However, we just got a new bed that has a foot board. It changes the way the bed skirt hangs, and now the risers show. I’ve looked for cherry risers to match the wood of the bed, but they’re not as tall as the risers we have now. What is a tasteful way to hide the risers so we can keep them?
Well, now that we have a footboard, the bed skirt is down behind the footboard instead of in front of the legs of the bed. That’s why the risers show now.

I have a mattress and box spring that has been in storage for a while sealed in plastic covers. I am needing to use both of them in the very near future and want to know the best way to clean them before sleeping on them. There are no stains and they are both in great condition but they have been in storage for a long while.

I already have a custom car cover which is more intended for storage. I would like to protect my car’s paint from the sun when I park it at work for ten hours, or when it’s in the parking lot of my apartment complex all day. i want something easy on, easy off. Is there anything on the market like this,
something light and airey. Would a bed sheet work? My car is a Chevy Cobalt.
Thanks

I have a bedroom set that I’m looking to sell, I want to get as much out of it as possible, but don’t want to over price it. Included is a fairly large night stand, with 2 drawers, a long dresser with 7 drawers, and a bed frame that could either be queen or full.. but I would include my queen mattress and box frame. All is in good condition, the only thing that’s wrong with it is there’s a small ring on the night stand. I’m pretty sure it is the Thomasville brand, I know it is a name brand, but it’s in storage and I cannot remember which it is.

I am moving and I have to put some of my clothes and blankets in storage and I am not sure when I will be getting them out. What should I do to prevent them from mildewing? Should I wrap them in trash bags and put them in a box? Any suggestions?

I have a wooden futon that has been in storage for a few years, and now I can’t figure out how to transform it from a bed to a couch! Can someone please help me?
My futon bed is an older wooden trifold.

We have a queen sized raised air mattress we’ve been sleeping on since our real bed is in storage temporarily. Just a few days ago, it started to deflate, even if we add air to it, a few hours later it needs more air. We’ve looked at the seams of it and just can’t find the hole. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Just wanted to add that this is an electric air pump. Wouldn’t putting water into it damage it??
