I bought a fantastic Egyptian cotton duvet cover and a pair of pillow cases; they are luxuriously soft and a dream to sleep with.

For sometime now I have noticed the top of the cover has become noticeably discoloured. At first I thought it was the direct sunlight, I was correctly informed that the sun bleaches, so this would not be the culprit.

I wash it regularly with biological soap tablets and a 1/4 cup of white vinegar in place of fabric softener. I have a very good front loading washing machine too. I follow the care labels correctly also.

It could well be that it is just dirty, as it is the top of the duvet cover. I was hoping some one could give some ideas as to why it has changed colour, is it just a build up of dirt and if so why has it not been washed out?

The care label has the no bleach symbol, but does any one advise me to bleach and would it solve the problem? I thought this was the most likely solution.

I know there are many stain removing products on the market, but I am not sure comfortable I am with them. I don’t leave stains and wash to make sure things stay clean in the first place.

Kindest regards,
claughton86

If i tan one minute each day for the next six months in a tanning bed, is that fine?
Like isn’t sunlight also healthy a bit? and i want to get vitamin D, so isn’t like, one minute a day, or 15 minutes a week okay for my body? My nutrition teacher said that 15 a week in the sun is healthy cuz you get all your vitamin D for the week. plus i just got a six month membership at a tanning salon… lol

Ok so ever since i was little, my mom always said that you should put your blanket out in the sun once in a while, and it will make you fall asleep faster. Anyways, every time after it has been hanged out in the sun, the blanket has this really nice smell and also feels really soft.

What i want to know is what is that smell from? how does the sun make it smell and feel that way?

I really don’t know how to discribe the smell, i have always asociated it with the sun so i called it the smell of the sun, but i can’t find any better ways to discribe this.

I take it apart about every other month or more if it has been humid outside. I put the foam pieces outside on my deck in the sun and I spray them with Lysol spray. Inside, I spray the air mattresses with a mix of bleach and water, let them sit a couple of hours and then wash them down with detergent and water. I then spray them with Lysol before putting the bed back together again. I’ve tried letting the Lysol completely dry before putting it back together and I’ve also left it still wet when putting it back together, either way, I still find mold every single time I open the bed. I have menopause so I have terrible night sweats which is what is causing the moisture. This is a HUGE project every time I do it but I have arthritis in my hips and the Sleep Number bed is wonderful for that so I really don’t want to get rid of it. I was thinking about putting some charcoal pieces in there to absorb some of the moisture. Any suggestions?

Best way to wash clothes to avoid discoloring?

What’s the best way to hinder the inevitable fading process? Is there a particular soap or way to wash to avoid this? I leave my clothes outside to dry, out of the reach of the sun, but I still find my clothes fading fairly quickly.

I am aware of the troubles associated with tanning but I would like to get tan before I go on vacation, not only to feel good about myself but also so that I don’t get burnt when out in the real sun. Are there any special oils/lotions I should use to get a deep tan or is it even possible in only three trips?

Can a tanning bed make your hair lighter?

Hello. This may sound silly, but can a tanning bed make your hair lighter? I haven’t been out in the sun too much, but have went to the tanning bed a few times. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about it or have had something similar happen to them. Thanks.

Jess

My bedroom has a musky smell?

I have recently noticed in the mornings my bedroom has a musty, dark odor.

A friend of mine had the same smell and i hated it! I know he had different bedding than me so i don’t think that is it. I want to get rid of it but not sure where it is coming from.

I sleep on the floor on a thick futon mattress with a thin Korean style futon mattress on top of that for extra cushion. The Korean futon, sheets, and pillow cases are silk and I wash them once a month.

I have thought about putting the futon in the sun to see if that helped and I air out the room daily. I am not sure if it is me, the mattress, sweat or what! I do keep the door and window closed but have forever and it is only recently the smell started.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have also used fabreeze at nasaum! I just don’t know what it is.
The sheets can’t be cleaned more than once a month because they are pure 100% silk. I have consulted many designers, fabric fabricators and such and they all recommend to keep the silk in good condition to not wash it more than once a month or it will fall apart.

The baking soda idea and vaccum are great totally slipped my mind!

I’m thinking about one like this

Technorati Tags: , , , , ,

I would try airing it out more in the sun, but here in Houston it rains ALOT. I’ve tried Febreeze too.
I cannot wash this in water. It is a down comforter. Or can I? I don’t wish to ruin it, it is an expensive Tommy Hilfiger feather down comforter.

Cleaning a futon cover and removing puppy odor…?

Does anyone know the best way to self-wash a futon cover, fully removing any odor including (unfortunately..) puppy pee?
The mattress sat in the sun and I will be covering it with a plastic liner…but I want to wash the cover…I tried it once but the odor stayed. Plus! It’s really hard to wash in a machine! Had to do it by hand in the tub…
I am searching for the febreze laundry online at target and/or walmart…
Is it Tide with Febreze?
Nevermind I think I found it :)
And what about something you can’t throw in the washer, such as the futon matress itself? Any suggestions?

Nothing seems to work at getting my sheets white?

I’ve tried bleach, bluing and adding some OxyClean to the wash.

Also, hanging them out in the sun hasn’t done much. Any other ideas?
Yes, I wash them separately in hot water. They aren’t that old, maybe 5 years?
